Priscilla (Holmes) Herochik, known to her friends as Cilla, was born in Chicago but moved, with her parents and siblings, to Indiana when she was six years old. She attended primary, middle and high school in DeMotte. She graduated from DeMotte High School in 1966.
Priscilla earned her degree in Nursing in 1975 and worked as a public health nurse and as a geriatric nurse until 1985. She then started law school at Valparaiso University School of Law.
Priscilla graduated with a Juris Doctor degree, with distinction, in 1988. She then worked with an established medical malpractice law firm for three years. After that,she started her own medical negligence practice bringing claims on behalf of injured patients.
Priscilla is listed in Who's Who of American Nurses, Who's Who of American Law Students and Who's Who of American Lawyers. In 2005, she was interviewed by Superlawyers, a national law magazine, and was also named a superlawyer by that publication each year for the next several years.
Priscilla retired from litigation in 2002. She now spends most of her professional life as an author. She has written several childrens' books which will be published in the near future. In addition, she is working on a book of short stories related to wildlife and has plans to write additional books in the genres of spirituality, politics, law, health care and philosophy.
Priscilla has two adult children, three adult step-children and many grandchildren. She and her husband, John Vanderwijst, live in Crown Point, Indiana, on 15 acres of pristine woods and wetlands with their pets and wildlife friends. Because of her love for wildlife, she is donating 2 percent of any profit on this book for 2009 to promotion of wildlife welfare.
